Course Description

Every project is subjected to significant uncertainty and the possibility of things occurring or being discovered which could significantly impact, positively or negatively on its success. Effective Project Risk Analysis and Management lies at the very core of successful project delivery.  Organisations plan and develop projects with greater anticipation that they will provide an effective solution to the problems facing them. However, this cannot be achieved easily without carefully appraising and planning for the management of risks and uncertainties. Systematic identification, quantification and analysis of project risks, as well as the development of detailed risk treatment strategies to mitigate all relevant risks that threaten the intended outcomes of the project, are essential to the achievement of project success. This course is designed to knowledge and skills on financial, economic, stakeholder, Investment Appraisal and risk analysis and risk management.

The Aims of the Course

The course aims to:

  • Develop skills and broad knowledge to systematically identify, quantify and analyse project risks, as well as develop detailed risk treatment strategies to mitigate all relevant risks that threaten the intended outcomes of the project.

Course Objectives

By the end of this training, delegates should be able to:

  • Describe the principal methods of project appraisal
  • Appreciate the suitability of differing appraisal techniques for project types
  • Use qualitative and quantitative methods to assess the exposure of the project to particular risks in real and measurable terms
  • Prioritize and rank risks in order to deal with them systematically
  • Plan and assess all aspects of investment projects
  • Perform present and annual value calculations (NPV and EAV)
  • Evaluate and rank various project alternatives using tools such as NPV, IRR, BCR, EAV/C
  • Prepare project financing agreements
  • Design strategies to address stakeholder concerns.
  • Develop sustainable PPP models.
  • Analyse the principal policy, evaluation and economic issues common across major projects.
  • Identify key risk factors and risk management solutions.
  • Recognise the benefits of the PPP project model.
